Oliver Mégel
I had the opportunity to work at LBNL from January to July 2009, partially as part of an exchange program to UC Berkeley. On a technical point of view, it allowed me to acquire a broad knowledge on distributed energy generation. I gained more comprehension in terms of price, efficiency and availability of different technologies, which is the kind of practical and needed knowledge you would hardly get out of a textbook. The work I pursued with DERCAM gave me a sense of what to expect from distributed energy generation, and I learned about energy models and how to connect them with a wide collection of data. It was also my first experience at a research institute, and I found interesting to get familiar with the work atmosphere in such institution, as well as to see the effects of time and budget constraints. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to meet motivated and inspiring people and, last but not least, an internship at LBNL does look good on a resume and can unlock you some doors for your future career.
