Karl Maribu

ex-Visiting Researcher

I had a wonderful year at Berkeley Lab when I visited the Distributed Energy Resources group in 2004/05. I visited the Lab as part of my PhD on investments in distributed generation at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Through the DER group, I met many nice people who were very inspiring to work with and who I still stay in contact with. During the stay, I got the opportunity to participate on several interesting research projects and spent some good time on the DER-CAM. We used the model to estimate the potential market diffusion of distributed energy resources in the US. In addition, we visited several real-world DER sites, which was motivating for my further studies.

After finalizing the PhD at NTNU, I continued with a postdoctoral study on risk management in electricity markets at École des Mines de Paris. During the last three years I have worked with Point Carbon - a consultancy and news and analysis provider in energy and environmental markets. The main focus of the work has been on analysis and modeling of carbon markets for several European and American participants in the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) and investors in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Projects.
