Joining the Webcast with Your Computer

Notes:

Steps to Connect to the Server:

  1. Start your web browser and click on (or go to) the following URL: http://audiobridge.es.net/
  2. When the MeetingPlace application has loaded, in the "MEETING ID" box, enter "5001" then click on "ATTEND MEETING"
  3. On the next page, where it says "GUEST USER", enter your full name.
  4. On that same page, check that the "MEETING ID" says "5001"; then click on "ATTEND MEETING"
  5. You will receive a prompt indicating that a password is necessary.   Please enter "usdoe" as the password.
  6. A meeting summary page will open.  Click on the "JOIN WEB CONFERENCE" button at the top of the page.
  7. The server will automatically attempt to load two Java applets into your browser.  Please reply "yes" to any and all prompts. This is very important!
  8. After a minute (but possibly as long as 5 minutes depending on network traffic and the speed of your machine and connection) the MeetingPlace window should automatically open.
  9. When you wish to exit the webcast, click on "PERSONAL" and then "EXIT MEETING ROOM" or just quit your web browsers.

Technical Support on the Webcast

If you encounter any problems on connecting to the server for the webcast:

Reasons Why the Web Cast May Not Work for You

As mentioned above, the software has been tested on several platforms and browsers but there are two main reasons why you may not be able to successfully participate in a web conference.

  1. Most web conferencing software require network ports 1503 and 8081 to be accessible from outside of your organization.  If your organization has a restrictive firewall in place (e.g., such as U.S. Department of Energy), you will not be able to participate in any external webconferences from within your network.
  2. Virtually all web conferencing software that use a browser interface require you to have the ability to download and install Java applets for your web browser.  If you are running Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, or XP operating systems and your systems administrator has severely restricted your permissions such that you cannot install these applets, you will not able to successfully participate in a web conference unless your systems administrator establishes the connection to the server for you.
Hence we recommend you try to connect early to identify and resolve any problems.  If you would like to test your connection ahead of time, please email Terry Chan or call 510 486 7439 and we will arrange a test.
